Open Water Swimming at Thames Young Mariners
Welcome to the 2026 season of Open Water Swimming at Thames Young Mariners.
The site work has been completed we are able to start running our open water sessions. There are some important updates to the site while we return to our original look.
All swimmers must wear footwear with a sole on them, either old trainers or crocks to enter the water. Once in the water you can remove these and leave on the pontoon and then put them back on before you exit the water. Wet suit socks are not enough.
Please park on the grass and not on the new soil before the telegraph pole.
Currently Water Temp 10.8c Saturday 4th April.
Follow us on Instragram @soldswimming and Facebook as Open Water Swimming at Thames Young Mariners group for further updates.
We have had a few cases of people attending when there are no sessions on. If you get on to site and there is no lifeguard team at the get in, then swimming is not on. Please do not enter the water.
Please note: All swimmers are required to wear a bright swim hat, no black. We strongly advise non wetsuit swimmers to use a tow float.
Check for changing room access with Lifeguard team.
Please do not arrive on site until 15 minutes before your allotted time.
Consider your warming up routine. There are excellent advice and tips on Open Water Swimming Magazine website.
Price £7 per session. If you are swimming for longer than 30 minutes please update the Lifeguard team. There is no need to book a second slot.
The swim session is currently for those who have been open water swimming before, have all of their own equipment and can swim 200 meters without stopping. If you are new to open water please contact me at simon.kibble@surreycc.gov.uk for a discussion.
Additional Info
Currently no under 18's without contacting SOLD, or those without their own equipment.
Previous cold water swimming experience recommended.
